Marc Albrighton compared Savinho's performance in City’s 2-0 win over Leicester to our former winger Riyad Mahrez.

The Brazilian put Pep Guardiola’s side ahead on 21 minutes, his first goal in blue, before he teed up Erling Haaland beautifully for our second of the afternoon.

It was City’s first away league win since October in what has been a difficult run of results in the lead up to 2025.

But Savinho’s man of the match performance helped City return to winning ways in our final game of the calendar year.

Former Leicester wide man Albrighton was in the Matchday Live studio for the first time to witness our win over the Foxes, and likened Savinho's qualities to that of his former team-mate and City star, Mahrez.

“I’ve really been impressed with Savinho when he’s played,” began Albrighton.

“I didn’t really know much about him before, I’m not sure too many people did.

“But every time I’ve seen him play he’s [reminded me] – I’m sure you’ve used this comparison before – of Riyad Mahrez.

“And he’s someone I’ve played with, Riyad, and like the quality he’s got, his first touch, the fact that he can go on either side and how positive he is. And I see that in Savinho.

“He’s been exciting for me to see and another one that City have bought in and it seems to be coming good.”

Savinho wasn’t the only player Albrighton commended after the final whistle.

James McAtee was brought on in the 66th minute for his third Premier League appearance of the campaign with his quick, impressive skill on the right initiating City’s attack that led to our second goal of the afternoon.

“I thought he [McAtee] was brilliant,” said Albrighton.

“I thought he showed a real positive attitude. I think he’s been short of minutes this season but he’s shown how good he is with his loan spells and then he comes on today and had a positive effect on the game.

“Not just the bit of skill that led to the second goal but just in general he was bright, he wanted the ball.

“A lot of the times when a team is struggling you can see players hiding a little bit but he wasn’t in that mindset at all. He wanted the ball, he wanted to show people what he can do.

“So hopefully this could be the start of a nice run of minutes for McAtee.”
