Last night’s UEFA Euro 2024 quarterfinal tie between Spain and France turned into a personal nightmare for Barcelona midfield sensation Pedri.

Having made a comeback from injury not very long ago, the 21-year-old suffered a fresh knee injury last night just six minutes into the contest in Stuttgart.

It all happened very quickly as Real Madrid and Germany legend Toni Kroos went into a badly-timed challenge that sent Pedri tumbling, leading to an injury in his left knee.

The Barcelona Golden Boy tried to soldier on but ended up collapsing a couple of minutes later and had to be taken off, with Dani Olmo replacing him.

Toni Kroos apologises to Pedri

After the match, Kroos, who retired after Germany’s elimination last night, had stated that he had been unable to catch up with Pedri and check on him.

However, now, the Real Madrid legend has issued an apology to the Barcelona superstar, stating that it was never his intention to hurt him and that he is a great player.

“This is still very important to me: apologies and get well soon, Pedri! Logically it wasn’t my intention to hurt you. A speedy recovery and all the best. You are a great player,” Kroos wrote in his farewell letter on Instagram.

When can Pedri return?

While it is still too early to tell, initial reports suggest that Pedri could be out for around a month to six weeks or even more, depending on the severity of the injury.

The 21-year-old will miss Spain’s semi-final against France and even the finals, if La Roja do make it past Kylian Mbappe & co.

As things stand, it is also likely that Pedri might not feature in the pre-season under new manager Hansi Flick. More updates are awaited once he undergoes further medical tests.
