Andrés Iniesta urges Barcelona to move for La Liga star | OneFootball

Barcelona legend Andrés Iniesta has this week backed his former club’s pursuit of a leading summer target.

The player in question? Nico Williams.

It is of course common knowledge at this point that wide-man Williams has made his way to the very top of the transfer wishlist of Barcelona.

The Athletic Club star is considered the ideal profile to reinforce new manager Hansi Flick’s frontline, rounding out a star-studded attacking trident also featuring the talents of both Lamine Yamal, and Robert Lewandowski.

The understanding is that, once the Blaugrana have their financial situation back in order, an offer in the region of Williams’ €58 million release clause will immediately be sanctioned.

And one individual of the opinion that as much would represent smart business on the part of the Catalans, as alluded to above, comes in the form of Andrés Iniesta.

Speaking during a public appearance as part of his role as ambassador for Uber Eats, midfield icon Iniesta was asked about Williams’ potential arrival at Barcelona.

And the 40-year-old, as cited by Mundo Deportivo, went on to reveal his belief that the Athletic standout would ‘give the club another level’:

“The level he’s showing is in line with the national team. We’re talking about Nico or Lamine, but you could also talk about Fabián, Rodri, Dani Olmo… anyone. Nico Williams has also had a fantastic season at his club, he’s a name that will surely be heard by the big teams. His signing for Barça would give the club another level, so we’ll see what happens.”
