According to journalist David Bernabeu of SPORT, Barcelona wanted to sell Fermin Lopez to the Premier League during the summer transfer window, with Chelsea showing strong interest.
Despite the possibility of a big-money transfer, though, the 22-year-old midfielder stood firm and made it clear that he had no intention of leaving the club of his dreams.
After weeks of speculation, Barcelona have now put an end to the transfer saga. Fermin, already focused on international duty with Spain, refused to give in to Chelsea’s offer.
The Club World Cup winner’s interest expired on deadline day after the player himself chose not to pursue negotiations.
Reports suggest that Barcelona had even set a 48-hour deadline for Fermin to decide between staying at Camp Nou or moving forward with Chelsea.
However, the player never pushed for the move, leaving the club with little choice but to close the chapter.

Barcelona’s financial struggles meant the club were initially open to the idea of a sale. The Catalans saw Chelsea’s approach as an opportunity to ease their salary burden and boost their transfer funds.
However, the Blues’ financial proposal was not convincing enough to persuade the Blaugrana to part ways with one of their most promising homegrown talents.
Negotiations remained open in the final days of the window, but Fermin’s determination to continue at Barça ultimately made the difference.
The youngster, who has been trained at La Masia and worked hard to earn a first-team place, has shown that his priority is not money or the Premier League but to succeed at the club he grew up supporting.
With Barcelona ruling the matter closed, Fermin will now look to solidify his role under Hansi Flick.
His refusal to leave despite financial temptation shows his loyalty, and Barcelona see him as an important piece for the present and future of the squad.
