Wrexham take on West Bromwich this Saturday at the STOK Cae Ras (The Racecourse Ground) in the matchweek two of the EFL Championship, with live coverage on ITV1 from 12:30.
It’s been a lively return to the second tier for the newly promoted Welsh side, and they now face another stern challenge in the shape of the Baggies.
Phil Parkinson’s men will be eager to respond after a narrow defeat to Southampton on the opening weekend, a game in which they showed plenty of spirit.
Ryan Mason’s West Brom make the trip north in buoyant mood after starting their campaign with a confident win over Blackburn Rovers.
This fixture marks the first time the two clubs have met in league competition. Their only previous encounter came in the FA Cup back in January 1930, when Wrexham edged it 1-0.
Craig Jones : Our first game of the season was certainly a cruel welcome to The Championship, with two late Southampton goals seeing us suffer a heartbreaking defeat.
Wrexham had played very well in the first half but ran out of steam after the break against quality opposition.
We now move on to another tough game at home to West Bromwich Albion, who won their opener against Blackburn.
We’ve been boosted by a late comeback win in the Carabao Cup against Hull and also smashing our transfer record to sign Nathan Broadhead from Ipswich Town on Thursday.
I expect the Welshman to make his debut on Saturday along with lots of returning players who were rested in midweek.
Kieffer Moore suffered an injury in his first game, and I’m expecting Ryan Hardie to replace him.
The question is will Phil Parkinson be brave enough to play both Broadhead and Josh Windass with him from the off?
I think it will be a difficult game against The Baggies and can see this ending level.
Prediction: 1-1
AllAlbionFans (AllAlbionFans): A perfect start last week with 3 points and a clean sheet against Blackburn Rovers.
A tough test this week for a team that hasn’t won away since November. Arguably one of the biggest games in Wrexham’s history and the cameras will be out. It could come down to how they cope with the pressure.
We’ve lost Heggem the day before the game which although a positive financially is a massive loss on the pitch.
If we lose then it’s still 1.5 points per game which is enough for Play Offs on average but if we win then there is huge reason to be excited as a Baggie as well have broken the away run against a team expected to be finish in a similar position.
I do wonder if the teams that come flying out of the blocks to start the season may attract a better calibre of player as the end of the transfer window gets closer.
This will be the only new ground for me this season and tickets went quickly.
Prediction: 2-1
