Lee Hendrie has spoken to FLW about Albion closing in on a loan deal for talented midfielder Toby Collyer.
Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie believes West Brom’s agreement to sign Manchester United midfielder Toby Collyer is a “good coup” and a deal that suits all parties.
The Baggies had been quiet over the last couple of weeks during the summer transfer window after originally bringing in Aune Heggebo, George Campbell and Nat Phillips, but a flurry of activity is now unfolding at The Hawthorns.
The Black Country outfit recently confirmed the signing of defender Krystian Bielik from Birmingham City on a three-year contract, while the departure of Torbjorn Heggem to Bologna has been confirmed.
And now, West Brom are closing in on the capture of an exciting young talent in Toby Collyer, who is set to link up on a season-long loan deal from Manchester United, according to the BBC.
Collyer featured six times in the Premier League last season at Old Trafford and is now taking on the relentlessness of the Championship in order to gain regular minutes and broaden his career.
It’s certainly an area where Albion have needed to strengthen, with the hope that the 21-year-old can be the next prospect to hit the ground running and be an immediate success in the second-tier.
With this news in mind, Lee Hendrie has spoken to FLW about his thoughts on Collyer moving to Ryan Mason’s Baggies.
Speaking exclusively to Football League World, ex-Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie believes that West Brom’s deal to sign Toby Collyer is a deal that works out for both the club and player, admitting it is a “good coup” for the Baggies to pick up.
Hendrie said: “Yeah, I think this is a real good coup for both really. Toby Collyer needs to get minutes and start playing at a competitive level and obviously the Championship is.
“He’s going to a really good football club in West Brom and with Ryan Mason, I think will get the best out of him, so I do think that both parties here this could really be a good fit.
“Like I said, these loan deals are great for some of the younger players who are probably not getting game time. He's going to a club that have got high expectation levels, so I think this is a really good signing for both parties.”
If there’s one thing West Brom have missed recently in the Championship, it is Premier League prospects that can make a big difference and names for themselves in the second-tier.
Young players have previously had big impacts in the Championship, with the likes of Amad Diallo, Levi Colwill and Morgan Gibbs-White all thriving at this level and going on to be major players in the top-flight.
With Collyer, he made six appearances last season in the top-flight and played a part in their Europa League campaign, mainly off the substitutes' bench, and really held his own. While the Championship will be more physically demanding, he has the potential to showcase his abundance of quality to the nation.
It will be a big boost to the midfield department too at West Brom, with Alex Mowatt requiring rotation at times, while Jayson Molumby will share minutes in order for him to keep his octane energy levels to a maximum.
