Lee Dixon has been talking about Newcastle United.
The former Arsenal and England defender asked a key question.
Lee Dixon asked; ‘How have Newcastle United handled the Alexander Isak situation?’
The former player declaring; “It’s an absolute disaster.”
Has he got a point, or is this yet another outsider without a clue as to the real factors at play here?
Lee Dixon asked the question by 10bet; ‘How have Newcastle United handled the Alexander Isak situation?’
‘It’s an absolute disaster. I mean their summer has been broken by it. You know, their ins and outs have been non-existent really. And, from Eddie’s point of view, if there was no clue that this was coming, then Isak will have to take a huge amount of responsibility for that.
When you’re a player, you have to have some kind of connection with the people around you. Not just with the players, but the fans, and the members of staff, the backroom team, everyone at the club. You have to say he’s let them down.
I’m not intimately connected to Newcastle, but whenever I’m there working, or when I was there as a player, there was always something special going on at that club. You can’t always put your finger on it but you’d go, “Oh God, I could play here.”
It’s one of those places, and not all clubs have got that. I think, to throw that away like Isak is doing, there’s got to be a better way to handle yourself.
The caveat is that I don’t know everything happening behind-the-scenes. I know Eddie Howe a little bit. We all seem to think he’s a nice guy, but there’s more to him than just what you see. I look at and think that there’s been a massive breakdown from Isak’s point of view, but he hasn’t dealt with this particularly well.
I always think the player has a responsibility to the club. Sometimes clubs can be ruthless when it comes to a player’s future, but when you’re a top, top player like Isak, you’ve got all the power. He’s thrown his toys out and said he won’t play. I think Eddie Howe’s dealt with it the only way he knows how and that’s in his Eddie Howe way. It’s just a mess.’
