Alexander Isak…what a saga.

Firstly, what an unbelievable player.

It didn’t take long to realise that this young lad would not be in a black and white shirt for long.

If we could get three or four seasons out of him before he moved on to Barcelona or Real Madrid, it would be a great result for us long suffering supporters.

No one can argue how extraordinary he’s been in his 109 games for the Toon. His sixty-two goals and eleven assists is testament to his overall brilliance and the bullet he rifled past Van Dijk and co at St James’ Park last season will always be a favourite.

However, the narrative on Alexander Isak has totally changed during this window.

There are a lot of passionate views on what the club should do, how much money we should get, who he should go to, or whether he needs to rot in the reserves.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and each opinion has merit.

Watching this unfold on the other side of the world in Australia has been interesting.

We were fortunate enough to visit Newcastle and experience St James’ Park in the 2022/23 season. On that occasion our extremely high expectation levels were exceeded and it wasn’t necessarily the game or the atmosphere’ at St James Park that did it.

It was the people we met before and after the game that was the exception (Talking about you Tony, Paul, Toby and Martin in The Strawberry).

We found the people representing your city to be friendly, warm, humorous and loyal. It was our everlasting memory and something we crave to experience again.

Arguably, for the first time since the SBR days, Eddie Howe has built a team that truly represents it’s people. The Newcastle United team of the last three seasons has achieved so much on the back of the core fundamentals that the residents of Newcastle seem to crave.

Loyalty, Honesty, Trust and Effort.

This is the absolute DNA of an Eddie Howe team and something we as supporters are truly proud of.

Alexander Isak has now lost the “DNA” that the residents of Newcastle demand.

He has an absolute right to move on to his next chapter at Liverpool, but the fact that he has done so to the detriment of his manager and team-mates, rightly sits uneasily with supporters.

This is because it goes against all the core values that the people of Newcastle seek.

Personally, I’m not concerned if he moves to Liverpool and what money is generated.

However, once a Newcastle United player loses those core values demanded by its people, it is best for the player to move in a different direction.
