FLW's Burnley fan pundit believes that Parker leaving Burnley for Brentford might end badly for both sides
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…
Scott Parker is reportedly one of the three names Brentford have shortlisted to replace Thomas Frank as manager.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Bees have outlined the 44-year-old following his record-breaking promotion campaign with Burnley.
The Clarets conceded just 16 times in 46 games as they recorded 100 points in the Championship last term.
Football League World’s Burnley fan pundit, Will Lancaster, believes that Brentford’s pursuit of Parker could ultimately prove ill-fated for both parties.
“It's a bit of a weird one,” exclaimed Will. “Brentford are very data-driven and Thomas Frank's been a major part of that. For them to land on Parker as part of the three-man shortlist, I was quite surprised.
“He's had another great Championship season, that's three promotions from three now, but he's not really proven in the Premier League.
"He took Fulham down and was then sacked after four games with Bournemouth, which included that 9-0 drubbing at Anfield.
“For us I think it'd be devastating. He might not have the attacking nous that Vincent Kompany had when we last went up, but his pragmatism was so easy to see last season. The 16-goal conceded record is one that I think will stand for a long time.
“I'm not too sure about whether that would translate to Brentford. They're going to lose Bryan Mbeumo. Nathan Collins has been linked with a move away and they're two of their biggest stars. There would be real pressure on Parker to bring enough quality into the club and replace Frank who was adored in West London.
“Do I see him being tempted by the job? Potentially. He's from London and they're an established Premier League team. He'd be stupid to turn that down, especially with the record that he has in the Premier League looming over his head.
“He can't really afford another relegation or otherwise he'll just get stuck in limbo. I can see him being tempted, it’s just whether Brentford actually make the move for him is the issue.”
Burnley approach the upcoming Premier League campaign with much optimism, despite failing miserably in their last attempt to remain in the division.
Parker’s playing style has centered around defensive stability and not conceding goals, traits that are crucial when it comes to survival in the top-flight.
However, this positivity could soon be sucked out of Turf Moor if Brentford were to make a move for the Clarets’ boss.
It would leave Burnley managerless in the midst of a vital summer of preparation ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
The Clarets would have to recruit a new coach who they believe is capable of working with some of Parker’s current crop and replicating his success, which is a task easier said than done.
This isn’t a problem the Lancashire side need, given the already humungous size of the task that awaits them. It would give Sunderland and Leeds United an instant leg-up on the Clarets, an advantage the club can’t afford to give away.
Therefore, Burnley will hope that Brentford decide against pursuing Parker in their search for a new manager.
