Pundit Lee Hendrie believes Scott Parker will be tempted by a move to Brentford should the club be able to adequately replace some imminent departures
Pundit Lee Hendrie believes Burnley should be concerned about a potential Scott Parker exit to rivals Brentford due to their recruitment model.
The Bees have waved goodbye to Thomas Frank after an incredible seven-year stint, which included promotion back to the Premier League and cementing themselves inside the top half of the top-flight.
Brentford are now on the lookout for his replacement after the Dane departed for Tottenham Hotspur, and have Burnley’s Scott Parker on their shortlist heading into the summer.
It would be far from ideal preparation for Burnley to lose their boss heading into pre-season, but it could be a distinct possibility given their ability to consistently push further up the Premier League table.
With this news in mind, pundit Lee Hendrie has issued his thoughts on whether he believes Parker will leave the Burnley ship.
Speaking exclusively to Football League World, pundit Lee Hendrie believes Scott Parker will be tempted by a move to Brentford if they have the resources to replace some key first-team exits.
Hendrie said: “Scott has had the experience of managing in the Championship and Premier League, but it seems Brentford are going to lose a fair few players.
“Their model has been very good over the years when they’ve brought players in, unknown players at times, and Thomas Frank has been absolutely incredible there with the way he’s taken the club forward and given them something to go at season-after-season.
“The question now is whether there will be similar recruitment should they sell. That will be something Scottie will be looking at as Burnley have a fairly young and vibrant squad, and I think what he did last season was incredible. The squad depth he utilised, defensively they were very sound, and I think that’s what’s quite key in the Premier League.
“So the interesting thing will be whether big players go from Brentford and whether he is offered the opportunity to bring players in that can fill similar boots. That will probably tempt him to take that job.”
The next Brentford manager will be going in knowing they have a massive task ahead of them. The Bees are expected to lose influential asset Bryan Mbeumo, while the blossoming Yoane Wissa may also be tempted to leave the club now Thomas Frank has departed.
There’s no doubt Brentford will get a significant sum of money from these potential sales, so it’s whether they can spend it wisely.
They've shown in the past they can bounce back in adversity, eventually replacing the losses of Said Benrahma and Ollie Watkins through the likes of Wissa, Mikkel Damsgaard and Kevin Schade, so it's a sustainable platform that Parker can get involved with.
