Wojciech Szczesny has become a surprising yet vital figure at Barcelona. But despite the club offering him a renewal, the experienced goalkeeper is in no rush to sign.
According to a report from SPORT, it has come to light that the Polish shot-stopper wants to see how things unfold in the goalkeeping department before making a final decision.
This is because Barcelona’s interest in Espanyol’s Joan Garcia is no secret, and with club captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen still around, Szczesny knows his role could shift drastically depending on who stays and who arrives.
The club’s goalkeeper picture is still blurry, and Szczesny does not want to jump to conclusions until it’s clear what the future holds.
Not long ago, Szczesny was enjoying his time off and was believed to be close to retirement. However, when Barcelona came calling, the veteran keeper stepped in and impressed with solid performances that no one saw coming.

His form led to a renewal proposal from the club, which is a gesture that shows just how much they value his contributions.
Still, Szczesny is taking his time. He wants to make the decision calmly, even discussing it with his wife before making any move. For now, he’s open to staying at Barcelona, but only if his role remains meaningful.
If Garcia arrives and ter Stegen stays, that could push Szczesny down the pecking order and it is something that he clearly wants to avoid.
Barcelona are watching the situation closely. They appreciate what Szczesny brings both on and off the pitch, but they also have to think about the long-term.
For the Pole, the choice is simple that he either continues to contribute or step away from football for good, this time permanently.
