A surprise second chance for Rangers’ Alex Lowry?

Rangers could be set to give frozen-out playmaker Alex Lowry a shock second chance after the attacking midfielder played a notably prominent role in preseason training following injury during Spring.

The attacker of course returned from an ignominious loan spell at Tynecastle with an injury which Rangers suggested they had not been told about by the Gorgie hierarchy, something which Philippe Clement was not happy about.

The manager explained that this effectively meant Lowry was ‘stuck’ at Ibrox for the rest of the season rather than being able to get minutes out on loan, obviously hinting at the time that the playmaker wasn’t part of his plans.

But tellingly his inclusion on the flight to Holland, prominence in training with that distinctive bleached hair and general place at the heart of preseason could suggest that Clement has had a rethink on the boy’s merits and might be willing to offer him a chance.

The big clue here is Sam Lammers – he has no future at Ibrox and has been left in Govan with the B team – if a player literally has no future at Rangers, he isn’t even on the summer training camp roster and plays no role in anything going forward.

But Lowry is there, and very heavily so.

Rangers have Todd Cantwell, Tom Lawrence, Kieran Dowell, Alex Lowry and Ianis Hagi in that position – it’s not exactly resplendent with quality and depth and there’s definitely a ‘vacancy’ for someone to hold the position down.

Could that be Lowry?
