Goldson completes medical and closes in on £2.5M Rangers exit

It would appear soon-to-be former Rangers defender Connor Goldson has indeed completed his medical to join Aris Limassol (unless the medical is for another club) and will become the latest departure of the summer window, with the switch happening very fast indeed.

The 31-year-old stopper has been a massively-maligned member of the squad since 55, and despite his stats putting him to the top of all defenders in the Europa League of the Sevilla season, that didn’t stop supporters (rightly) calling out his massive gaffe in the final of failing to clear an easy ball, a moment which arguably played a gigantic role in Rangers not winning the Europa League that season.

And it comes to pass that the rather unpopular centre half has decide to rip up his time in Govan with Rangers seemingly quite happy to wave goodbye to him now, a fee of around £2.5M being mentioned as the player makes the switch.

Ibrox Noise verdict?

Not before time – Goldson was a complete chancer at Rangers – he had one good season, but everyone had a good season that 55 victory, and otherwise it is hard to justify his appalling wage since 2022.

Ibrox Noise was on record as being literally appalled when Rangers extended his deal in 2022, a decision that now looks absolutely horrendous for the value we got back. That one is definitely on Ross Wilson.

And if we now see another disgusting Rangers tweet mock thanking him for the last 6 years and saying we look forward now to the next 6, we may just resign our commission. We were appalled when he stayed, even if the response to that news from fans was positive at the time.

The reality is Rangers did not get value from Goldson, and he was absurdly immune until he was patently costing the club goals over and over again, leaving Clement no option in the end but to finally drop him then lie that he was injured.

And seeing him play at all in preseason has been disappointing – one fan media site called his display v Ajax ‘absolute disinterest’ and that’s the arrogance with which the guy has played for this club for far too long.

We will have more on this in due course, but for now, it seems that Rangers are finally clear of Goldson.

And we’re beyond relieved.
