“The mistake I made” – Graham Potter lifts the lid on his time at Chelsea | OneFootball

Graham Potter was back on our screens last night as he was the guest on Sky Sports Monday Night football and the former Chelsea boss spoke about his time at the club and revealed what his biggest mistake was.

Potter replaced fan favourite Thomas Tuchel in September 2022 and was parachuted into a complete mess following the takeover by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Captial.

The  49-year-old actually got off to a really good start and was unbeaten in his first nine games in all competitions, but after a 4-1 thrashing by former side Brighton he never really recovered.

Potter on the biggest mistake he made as Chelsea boss

Despite being unbeaten in the Champions League and guiding Chelsea to the last eight where they would eventually be eliminated by Real Madrid, Potter was sacked before he had the chance to oversee the tie, with the Blues languishing in mid table.

Following his dismissal in April 2023 Potter has kept a low profile and has very much been out of the limelight as he took some time away from everything.

He’s believed to have turned down the Ajax job, whilst he was also strongly linked with the Leicester City vacancy, but now he’s ready to get back into management when the right opportunity comes.

Potter was a guest on Monday Night Football and he spoke about his time at Chelsea and interestingly he revealed what his biggest mistake was.

“The mistake I made was thinking that new ownership means there’s a chance of a change of culture,” he told Sky Sports.

The new ownership haven’t demonstrated they will be patient with managers but it feels like with Enzo Maresca they will have to be regardless of what happens, but the Blues have got off to a good start under the 44-year-old and hopefully a positive season lies ahead.
