As though the mini transfer window deadline last night wasn’t exciting enough, the Club World Cup continues to delivery with more drama focused around the squad announcement for the tournament which kicks off in the USA this weekend.

Teams are allowed to bring between 25 and 50 players, but Chelsea are going to keep things slim and trim and only take a limited group. That means leaving out anyone they don’t feel will be in the squad next season, so there’s a lot of significance on this decision. Anyone who doesn’t go is already effectively being told they’re not in the club’s plans for next year.

Fabrizio Romano’s Tweet about two first team players who won’t travel to USA.

Fabrizio Romano has just put out a Tweet which names two big name players who won’t be going – Raheem Sterling and Joao Felix.

This is not very surprising in either case really – Sterling was frozen out last summer and only went to Arsenal on loan because no permanent buyer could be found. The Felix story is even stranger. He only signed for us last summer, by but January was already loaned out to AC Milan, who soon realised that 6 months of him was enough for them too.

Benfica deal still on the cards for Felix

There was talk that Felix would go back to his former club Benfica on loan in time to play for them in this tournament, but as we predicted that was too difficult to pull off in time. Hopefully we can move him on before the season starts.
