Chelsea’s need for a left winger isn’t going anywhere.

Mykhailo Mudryk is banned, potentially forever. Jadon Sancho has gone back to Manchester United. A deal for Jamie Gittens is proving difficult.

We just wrote about potential interest in Xavi Simons starting up again, and he’s not the only target who could be on the move soon.

Romano and others says Chelsea want Jesus Rodriguez

Jesus Rodriguez of Real Betis closes in on Aston Villa move.

Back in March we wrote about Chelsea’s reported interest in Jesus Rodriguez, and while it seems our interest has cooled, another Premier League team are taking up the slack. According to CaughtOffside, Aston Villa are keen on the Betis winger.

Fabrizio Romano’s Tweet on the subject says that the youngster is “on the shortlist of several clubs” (presumably including Chelsea) but Villa are the first to star “club to club talks.”

If we want him, it sounds like this is our last chance before it’s too late.

Jesus stats aren’t impressive – but release clause is eye catching

Jesus finishes the stats with two goals in La Liga and one in the Conference League. He got 0 assists all year, from more than 1500 minutes played. So he’s far from the finished article.

But his electric speed is what’s tempting teams, and with a little coaching he could come a long way, really fast. His stats show he’s exceptionally good at take-ons and carrying the ball. A little work on his end product will go a long way.

Still just 19, there’s more to come from him, and it’s easy to see his £42m release clause looking cheap in a few years if he keeps developing well.

Gittens and others are clearly top of our list, but don’t rule out Jesus, for as long as he’s still on the market.
