Pep Guardiola and Manchester City have received a triple fitness update ahead of their final four matches in the ongoing Premier League season.

Manchester City return to English top-flight duties this weekend, with Pep Guardiola granting his players the best part of three days off this week following a hugely demanding period across three competitions for the Treble winners.

A UEFA Champions League quarter-final exit to Real Madrid was followed up by successive victories against Chelsea at Wembley in the FA Cup semi-final, and away Premier League trips to Brighton and Nottingham Forest.

However, the demanding schedule has also taken its toll on Pep Guardiola’s players, with injury and illness problems hampering options in recent days, with fresh updates offered on a trio of starting eleven mainstays.

Manchester City’s first-team squad resumed first-team training duties at the City Football Academy on Wednesday ahead of their upcoming Premier League clash against Wolves at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening.

Ederson featured alongside his goalkeeping colleagues as expected, after reports revealed that scans on his shoulder injury sustained against Nottingham Forest had indicated that the Brazilian had avoided any lengthy lay-off.

The Brazil international was withdrawn at half-time against Nuno Espirito Santo’s side having collided with Nottingham Forest centre-back Willy Boly at a set-piece, before continuing for the remainder of the opening 45 minutes of play.

Despite returning to training, the 30-year-old shot-stopper may not yet be risked against Wolves at the weekend, with Manchester City coaches and Pep Guardiola both having plenty of faith in back-up option Ortega.

Phil Foden and Ruben Dias have also both returned to training ground duties and on-field commitments having missed the weekend’s 0-2 win at the City Ground through illness, with the pair certainly needed in the final five matches.

The aforementioned England international has been nothing short of sensational this season, taking his already exemplary abilities across the front-line into a new form of goalscoring to make up for extended absences to the likes of Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne.

Following this weekend’s meeting against Wolves at the Etihad, Manchester City face successive Premier League away trips to Fulham and Tottenham, before closing out their top-flight season with a home meeting against David Moyes’ West Ham.
