A domino effect could occur involving Anthony Gordon, Liverpool, Newcastle United, Leeds United and Crysencio Summerville this summer.

There have been reports claiming that Anthony Gordon is a transfer target for Liverpool, which could open up the possibility of Newcastle United requiring a left-sided winger this summer, meaning the Magpies could then turn to Leeds United and Crysencio Summerville.

The Daily Mail first reported the news that Newcastle could be ready to sell Anthony Gordon to Liverpool over the weekend as they strived to comply with financial rules - but talks over a move broke down and they did not make an offer after discussions with the Magpies.

However, there remains a chance talks could be revived before the end of the window, and other reports from various outlets have outlined Newcastle's plans to settle one of their prized assets down after Gordon had his head turned. The same reports claim that the Magpies' stance is that he won't leave this summer.

The proposal of Gordon was one of many Newcastle were juggling as they, and other clubs, worked towards raising revenue to meet PSR guidelines by Sunday's June 30 accounting deadline. Meanwhile, Newcastle did deals to comply with those financial rules, with both Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson sold before the Sunday deadline to place them in a healthier position.

There is every chance Gordon and Liverpool's deal could be reignited at some stage during the window, especially with Newcastle no longer competing in Europe next season, having finished last year in seventh. That could see a number of key players move on, including the likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Alexander Isak, and Gordon.

Whilst it is known that Newcastle have held discussions recently regarding several wingers this summer, including Leeds' star man Crysencio Summerville, per The Athletic. Their report from early last month states that Jarrod Bowen and Nico Williams are also on the shortlist, with a winger expected to come in, irrespective of Gordon's future at St. James' Park.

Should Gordon be sold, the Magpies will no doubt add two wingers to their squad, which could see a move for the Dutchman accelerate quickly. He has been linked to a host of top-flight sides, including Aston Villa and Chelsea, who have been credited with an interest in the forward.

Newcastle's interest is long-standing, though. The 22-year-old was the subject of reported interest from Eddie Howe's side last month. Football Insider claimed the Magpies would only make a swoop for Summerville's services if Leeds fell into the second tier. However, nothing materialised in the end.

Leeds will be casting an eye on developments regarding Gordon, who would command a large fee himself and therefore give Newcastle the spending power to beat other competition in the race for Summerville's signature this summer.

Despite missing out on promotion, Summerville had an incredible season on a personal level, having been Leeds' best and most irreplaceable player for much of the campaign, which has naturally meant interest has built up ahead of the summer window opening.

The Dutchman made the move from Eredivisie club Feyenoord in September 2020 for a fee of just £1.3 million, which was an absolute bargain in hindsight given his exploits this season. His productivity was rewarded for his campaign with the Championship's Player of the Year award.

After sporadic appearances over the last couple of seasons, Summerville has established himself as the key forward for Daniel Farke in the Championship. He scored 21 goals and created a further 10 this season from 49 games in all competitions from out wide, and developed incredibly in the second tier.

Now 22, Summerville has made it clear that he belongs in the top-flight next season, be that with or without Leeds.

He signed a new deal at the start of last season, keeping him tied down at Elland Road until the summer of 2026, meaning failure to gain promotion has weakened Leeds' hand two-fold.

It would be incredible if he were to stay, but his departure feels inevitable, and he would be a great addition for Newcastle. His short bursts of acceleration make him a deadly weapon against deeper opposition, whilst his top speed has seen him at his best in transition for Leeds.

Newcastle, and indeed Gordon, are at their best on the counter-attack, which is where Summerville also comes alive. Not only that, but their respective top speeds and direct dribbling styles make him a potentially excellent analogue to Gordon, or replacement if the England international were to leave.

His intensity out of possession would also be attractive for Howe, with Summerville able to catch defenders out by snapping into the press quickly, and thriving in the chaos that ensues following that.
