Anthony Gordon disrespect is massive for Newcastle United

Anthony Gordon has been a massive talking point this summer.

The Newcastle United star enjoying a spectacular first full season at St James’ Park where his double-figure Premier League stats, on both goals scored and assists, saw him eventually force his way into the England squad that flew to Germany.

Only to find out that it was actually a month-long holiday that he’d been invited on, rather than travelling as an active working part of the Gareth Southgate master plan.

We all know how painful it has been watching this negative dross on the TV as England have crawled through match by match, only winning one of their five games in normal match time (90 plus injury minutes).

Imagine then how it must have been for Anthony Gordon!

I know he hasn’t had to pay for his seat but that is no comfort for the 22 year forced to watch at such close quarters and not allowed to do anything about it.

Starting eleven after starting eleven, Gareth Southgate refusing to select any attacking threat on the left.

Then game after game refusing to make the most obvious change of all during the matches, leaving Anthony Gordon on the bench as yet again, no threat from the left. Indeed… no threat from anywhere really. In over two hours on Saturday, England only managed three efforts on target, the Saka equaliser on 80 minutes the first that they’d had against Switzerland.

Can you imagine what is going on inside the head of Anthony Gordon, sitting there, unable to do anything, as somehow England have fluked game after game against mediocre opposition to stumble into the semi-finals. Remember, England have failed to beat in normal game time (90+ injury time) Denmark, Slovenia, Slovakia and Switzerland, whilst they were clinging on for most of the match against Serbia after Southgate went so negative following the early lead. During these Euros averaging only three efforts on target per game and two of those had 30+ minutes extra-time!

Anthony Gordon having had one opportunity, one minute, brought on during the Slovenia debacle on 89 minutes, a woeful team display suddenly lit up as a great run inside and stunning pass from the halfway line into the edge of the box, ended with Palmer wasting a one on one with the keeper.

Gordon’s reward for that creativity and lighting up yet another shocking negative England performance, yes, never seen again. That will teach Anthony Gordon! Creating chances, flair and positive football, no thanks says Gareth!

Anyway, this ridiculous Gareth Southgate disrespect shown to Anthony Gordon is going to have, in my opinion, massive benefits for Newcastle United.

The 22 year old will be like a highly coiled spring, ready to unwind and show in club football what he has been denied the chance to in these 2024 European Championships.

Anthony Gordon will be busting a gut to perform for Eddie Howe.

A chance to finally play football once again and also show Gareth Southgate why he should have been given a proper chance in Germany, even more importantly, show Southgate’s replacement why he should be a key part of an all new England set-up, that is built around playing attacking football and properly unleashing the significant talent there is in the national set-up. Instead of approaching every match against poor to average opposition, as though England are Scotland.

It couldn’t be more perfect really, from a Newcastle United perspective.

As Anthony Gordon has been kept away from any chance of injury issues but at the same time been training this past month alongside many of the best players in the country and his fitness will be absolutely at a peak, seeing him ready to explode into this Premier League season.

I can’t wait to see it, wish I could say the same for having to sit through another dreadful England match with that clown in charge.
