Everton are among the Premier League clubs reportedly in the race for Benfica holding midfielder Florentino Luis this summer, per Record.
The Toffees view the Portuguese midfielder as a long-term replacement for Idrissa Gana Gueye.
Luis breaks up opposition attacks for fun, using his boundless energy to shield the backline.
His positioning is brilliant, while his ability to read the game is uncanny. He recovers possession cleanly and efficiently.
Luis excels in covering space, screening the back line and closing passing lanes with minimal need for physical contact. He relies on his timing, footwork and awareness.
However, the Merseyside outfit is not alone in the race for his signature.
Crystal Palace and Leeds United have also shown interest, but the €25 million asking price is a significant hurdle.
Benfica are not pushing to sell Luis despite adding Richard Rios and Enzo Barrenechea to their squad.
Luis would be quite the pick-up for Everton. As former Benfica youth coach Joao Tralhao said, ‘he has the talent and quality to play in elite teams’.
The 25-year-old has been tipped to become one of the best in the world in his position.
Manager David Moyes has been clamouring for new additions, and acquiring the Benfica star will help assuage his frustrations.
The Everton engine room will be stronger if they bring in Luis and other midfield target Douglas Luiz this summer. The squad is also crying out for new wingers.
