The last few years have been a bit of a downturn for Everton. The club have struggled in the Premier League. Where they were once competing for European spots, they are now content to just stay out of the relegation zone. The team have struggled, and recent coaching changes have failed to provide stability. There has been a constant lack of creativity in midfield. Some of the club’s experienced players have either left or are showing signs of age. The departure of Abdoulaye Doucoure and the declining form of Idrissa Gueye give a clear picture of the situation in this department.
In these circumstances, Everton desperately need new energy in midfield. The board is aware of this problem, and that is why they have reactivated their scouting network. The Premier League’s pressing and fast-paced style of play demands a player who can control the ball, be adept at passing and maintain defensive balance as well. In this scenario, the club have set their sights on a Portuguese midfielder who has been on the radar of scouts for quite some time.

According to Italian journalist Gianluigi Longari, Everton, Leeds United, and Burnley have all sought information from SL Benfica about Florentino Luis. The 25-year-old midfielder, who plays for Benfica, has now become an interesting option for all three clubs. Benfica recently signed Richard Rios from Palmeiras, making Florentino’s departure seem likely. This name is not new to Everton. The club have been looking at him for a long time, and the need has increased even more after Doucoure’s departure.
Florentino Luis is a player who brings energy to the midfield. His defensive positioning is precise. The midfielder makes interceptions, is quick in tackles and has composure in passing. His performances at Benfica have shown his maturity, and he is the kind of player who could provide a lot of quality for David Moyes’ system.
Signing Florentino Luis could be a very sensible move for Everton. The club are in a position where they need a midfielder who can not only handle the present but also form the basis for the future. Florentino seems to have that ability. His age is on his side, and he looks capable of adapting to the physical game of the Premier League.
Although Burnley and Leeds United also want to sign him, Everton have a different appeal. If the club assure him regular football and a stable project, a deal is possible. Florentino’s combination with players like Gueye and Garner would give Everton new strength in midfield. The Toffees must not miss this opportunity. This could be the move that solve their midfield woes.
