Chelsea’s summer transfer window has started strong with some signings, but there’s also a huge job of selling players to get into.

So far that front has been much quieter, although it seems a first deal isn’t too far away.

After years of struggling in the first team or rotting on the bench, Kepa Arrizabalaga finally got going on a loan to Bournemouth last year, playing regularly as they had an excellent season. That’s meant that there is interest from multiple teams in triggering the £5m release clause in the contract he signed a year ago.

While the Cherries would love to keep him, it seems they’ve been gazumped by Arsenal. Speaking to CaughtOffside, Arsenal writer Charles Watts hailed the deal.

“I think the Kepa deal is a fantastic one if it gets done, which it appears it will,” Watts said.

“You are talking about a keeper approaching his best years who has plenty of experience and is a senior international. He had a very good season on loan at Bournemouth last season and the season before he helped Real Madrid win the Champions League while he was there.

“It’s just a really good deal at an exceptional price. And the fact it looks like it will be wrapped up early in the summer is a real positive.”

Kepa will back up David Raya for fellow Basque Mikel Arteta’s team if the move goes through.

Chelsea have to figure out their goalkeeper situation after multiple moves

Chelsea have goalkeeper questions of their own to answer. Attempts to sign Mike Maignan have failed, and they’ve sold Marcus Bettinelli. They now need to decide which of their 4 main options will be first choice, second choice, third choice and loaned out.
