Galatasaray’s much-anticipated move for Victor Osimhen is hanging by a thread after Napoli demanded bank guarantees to sanction his €75 million exit (h/t journalist Gianluca Di Marzio).
The Nigerian striker has given his green light for Gala to finalise a move. However, the clubs have failed to agree on the payment structure, putting the deal at serious risk of collapse.
Osimhen’s relationship with Napoli has been fractured since last summer’s transfer window.
The striker was furious after the club blocked several big-money moves, including one to Paris Saint-Germain, while talks with Chelsea also collapsed over personal terms.
He was subsequently frozen out of the team, which forced a last-minute loan move to Gala after the Premier League transfer window closed.
Osimhen didn’t disappoint during his loan spell, bagging 37 goals and eight assists in 41 games across all competitions.
His 26 league goals fired Gala to the Turkish Super Lig title and made him a fan favourite in Istanbul.
His performances convinced Gala early on to make his stay permanent, and they have since worked tirelessly to raise the funds for a full transfer.
Gala offered Osimhen a deal worth €16m per year. He didn’t jump at the chance to agree terms, but subsequently came around after assessing his limited options.
However, Napoli have thrown another curveball at his attempts to leave the Partenopei.
They rejected two separate offers worth €55m and €60m, insisting they won’t accept a penny less than his €75m release clause.
Galatasaray responded by agreeing to pay the full amount, but in five instalments. Napoli again rebuffed their proposal, demanding the full fee up front, something Gala cannot currently afford.
Napoli are asking the Turkish club to provide a bank guarantee, but they’ve not been able to do that, which leaves the deal on the brink of total collapse.
If a move to Gala doesn’t materialise, Osimhen may be forced to consider a move to the Saudi Pro League.
