Lens have signed FK Sarajevo centre-back Nidal Celik (18), both clubs have announced. Despite his young age, Celik was Sarajevo’s captain. Lens were looking for defensive reinforcements as they parted ways with Abdukodir Khusanov and Kevin Danso this winter transfer window. Khusanov joined Manchester City in a €50m move while the Austrian international centre-back signed for Tottenham in a loan move with a €25m option to buy.
Celik will wear Lens’ No. 4 jersey. The Bosnia and Herzegovina international has put pen to paper over a four-and-a-half-year deal with Will Still’s Artois side. Celik can make his Lens debut this Saturday away at Nice. “I am delighted with the signing of Nidal at the Racing Club Lens”, said Lens CEO Pierre Dreossi. “At only 18, he already has a notable high-level experience, having evolved with all the young selections of Bosnia before being called with the senior team last November.”
