A saga throughout August 2024 ended unsuccessfully, Newcastle United reported to have put in a number of bids but Marc Guehi ended up staying at Selhurst Park. After that summer 2024 transfer window closed, Crystal Palace Chairman Steve Parish stated that selling Marc Guehi had become impossible that month (August 2024) due to their other first choice central defender Joachim Andersen leaving for Fulham and then one of their new signings picking up an injury.

Marc Guehi turned 25 only last month and is clearly a player Eddie Howe rates, nothing has changed either in that Newcastle United still for sure need to sign a central defender who can compete with Fabian Schar to play as the right-sided centre-back. Gueho also has the advantage of being comfortable playing as the left or right central defender.

Marc Guehi has also continued to refuse to sign all attempts from Crystal Palace to sign a new extended contract.

As things stand, the England international has less than 11 months on his Palace deal which runs until 30 June 2026.

The Times say that Crystal Palace are trying to hold out for £50m but Newcastle United are willing to go no higher than £40m. The report saying that United are prepared to leave it late in this transfer window to land Marc Guehi, in order to keep the price down.

With Palace having now allowed themselves to get into this position with Marc Guehi, it feels inconceivable surely that they will allow this window to end without selling the player. If not banking £40m or so this month, you would imagine it would be all but guaranteed that then Marc Guehi would then see out the 2025/26 season and leave Palace for nothing next summer.

The Times say that Newcastle United did try and sign 21 year old Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini back in June, but that the Serie A club firmly rejected all of their approaches for the Italy international.
