The shortlist for the 2025 Women’s Ballon d’Or has been revealed, with five members of England’s Euro 2025 winning squad part of the 30-player list.
England beat pre-tournament favourites Spain on penalties to win the Euro 2025 tournament last month.
The Lionesses have been rewarded with five members up for contention in the Ballon d’Or running, with the winner to be announced next month.
Spain are the most represented country with six nominations, while Arsenal have seven players in the shortlist after winning the Women’s Champions League.
Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmati has won the prestigious prize over the past two seasons, and makes the shortlist again as she looks to become the first player to win the award on three occasions.
Arsenal striker Alessia Russo will be one of the strong contenders to win the award after winning the Champions League and Euro 2025 this summer.
Many predictions have seen her name high up in the running to win the award, along with Barcelona players Alexia Putellas and Aitana Bonmati.
Her Arsenal teammate Chloe Kelly has also been shortlisted after an excellent Euro 2025 tournament.
Kelly scored the winning penalty against Spain in the final and is the favourite with betting sites to win the Sports Personality of the Year award.
Hannah Hampton denied Aitana Bonmati and Mariona Caldentey in the penalty shootout win for England, and also makes the Ballon d’Or shortlist.
The Chelsea goalkeeper is also in the running for the inaugural 2025 Yachine Trophy, which will be presented on the same night. She is the only goalkeeper nominated for the Ballon d’Or, making her the favourite to win the Yachine Trophy.
Lucy Bronze, who finished second to Megan Rapinoe in the 2019 Ballon d’Or award, also makes the shortlist alongside England captain Leah Williamson.
There are 11 players from the Women’s Super League who have made the list of nominees for the Ballon d’Or.
That includes seven players from Arsenal, including England trio Chloe Kelly, Alessia Russo and Leah Williamson.
Arsenal are also represented by Mariona Caldentey, Steph Catley, Emily Fox and Frida Leonhardsen Maanum.
The other four nominations come from Chelsea with Lucy Bronze, Sandy Baltimore, Hannah Hampton and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd on the shortlist.
Barcelona are the second-most represented club side in the Women’s Ballon d’Or shortlist.
Past winners Aitana Bonmati and Alexia Putellas are joined by Caroline Graham Hansen, Patri Guijarro, Ewa Pajor and Claudia Pina.
The majority of nominees currently play in Europe, though there are five who play their football in the National Women’s Soccer League and one who is contracted with a Brazilian side.
