The Lionesses have moved up in the rankings after their Euro 2025 win, but slipped behind Sweden who they eliminated in the quarter-final stage.

Spain jumped ahead of the United States to take top spot despite losing on penalties to England in the final.

Spain are favourites to win the Women’s Euros in 2029 with betting sites, ahead of England.

England move up to fourth in the FIFA World Rankings

England have moved back up to fourth in the latest FIFA World Rankings, after slipping to fifth in the prior rankings back in June.

The Lionesses move ahead of both Germany and Brazil who slipped from third and fourth to fifth and seventh.

That is despite Brazil winning the Copa America Femenina.

Sweden were also eliminated before Germany at Euro 2025, but have moved up the rankings from sixth to third.

The Scandinavian country were eliminated in a dramatic penalty shootout defeat to England in the quarter-finals, while Germany were eliminated by Spain in the semi-finals.

France were the big movers inside the top 10, jumping up four places to sixth. Their 2-1 victory over England in the group stage of Euro 2025 would have had a big influence on their rise in the standings.

Les Bleus jumped ahead of Brazil, Japan, Canada and Korea DPR, who complete the top 10.

Wales dropped to 32nd after their participation at Euro 2025 while Scotland moved down to 25th.

The Republic of Ireland fell to 27th, while Northern Ireland are down in 44th.

Bangladesh were the biggest climbers, moving up 24 places to 104th, while Mongolia suffered the biggest drop, moving down 22 positions to 144th.

How are the rankings calculated?

Some might be confused why England moved up just one position to fourth despite winning Euro 2025.

The same can be said about Brazil who dropped three places despite winning the Copa America Femenina.

However, winning a tournament outright doesn’t impact the FIFA World Rankings.

FIFA lists the below as the key criteria for how the rankings are calculated;

  • Result of the match
  • Home vs away, or neutral ground
  • Importance of the match
  • Difference in Women’s World Ranking between the teams
