Lee Hendrie has told FLW his verdict on Bristol City's interest in Tyrhys Dolan

Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie believes that Tyrhys Dolan would be an excellent addition at Bristol City this summer, having left Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers at the end of his contract.

It was reported by Alan Nixon last weekend that the Robins are hoping to secure the signing of the winger.

Gerhard Struber will be keen to bolster his attacking options ahead of the new Championship season following his appointment as a successor to Liam Manning, who departed for Norwich City after taking the Ashton Gate outfit to a shock play-off finish.

Dolan is available as a free agent after he departed Blackburn Rovers at the end of his contract at the end of last month, having allowed his deal to run down in a protracted and well-documented saga.

The 23-year-old, who will command a not-insignificant compensation fee if he joins a domestic club, has no shortage of suitors and the Robins are interested in his services alongside Derby County, Middlesbrough and unnamed sides in Greece and Turkey, as per reports.

Tyrhys Dolan transfer claim

Hendrie has praised Dolan as a player, and believes that a move to Bristol City could be the ideal next step in his career.

He claimed that the 23-year-old would be a good fit at Ashton Gate, and that a change in scenery could be what he needs to iron out his inconsistent performance issues.

“He’s an exciting player, and I think the way Bristol City play in particular — I know there’s lots of other clubs that are trying to sign him — but I think it’d be a really good signing for Bristol City, I really do,” Hendrie exclusively told Football League World.

“The way they play, in particular with wide players, it looks like they’re going to change their style.

“But, yes, obviously I’ve seen him at Blackburn and he can light up the show, he can really perform.

“He just needs to do that on a more consistent basis.

“And I think, yes, Bristol City would be a really good coup for them, and I think it would be a good move for himself as well, might just even kickstart him and give him that little bit more.

“Because you can get a bit complacent, and that might be the move that might just really kick him on.”

Dolan made 44 appearances in the Championship last season, contributing seven goals and six assists.

Dolan could be a smart signing for Struber’s side

Struber is taking over a side that finished sixth in the Championship table last season, but he will still want to put his mark on the squad.

Bringing in someone like Dolan will bolster his attacking options, with the winger showing last year that, on his day, he can be quite formidable at this level. His end product is finally developing, and his trickery and creativity have long given Championship defenders a world of problems.

If he can help develop the forward, then this could prove a very smart move, while offering something of a statement factor if they are able to beat off other divisional rivals for his signature.

Dolan's potential means any deal could become very lucrative for the club if they can increase his market value over the next couple of seasons.
