Blackburn Rovers will have a financial incentive for why they want Tyrhys Dolan to stay in English football after Ewood Park exit
Blackburn Rovers will surely be hoping that the exiting Tyrhys Dolan will make the switch to Championship rivals Bristol City amid competition from European clubs for his signature.
It has been reported by Alan Nixon that the winger is attracting interest from the Robins following the expiration of his contract.
However, the Championship side will have to fend off interest from clubs in both Greece and Turkey, who are also eyeing a deal for the player.
The winger is now a free agent after the end of his contract with Blackburn, leading to a lot of speculation over his immediate future, with the new season just weeks away.
The 23-year-old made 44 appearances in the league last season, contributing seven goals and six assists, playing a key role in the team as they finished seventh in the table, just two points outside of the play-off places.
Blackburn may have lost Dolan due to his contract expiring, but that won’t mean that they receive nothing for his next move.
Due to the player being under 24, the Lancashire outfit will still be owed some kind of transfer fee, which could be determined by an independent tribunal.
While there’s no doubt that Dolan could have been worth a sizable figure, potentially as much as £5 million or £6 million if he was under contract, Blackburn will still welcome as big of a fee as they can get for him now.
Given the circumstances, Rovers will surely be keen to see the 23-year-old move to one of their Championship rivals as that should maximise the potential fee from his departure - whereas a move abroad would see them gain a minimal six-figure sum for his services, as many clubs have seen in the past, such as Charlton Athletic losing Joe Aribo to Rangers for just £300,000 due to FIFA's rules.
Due to his vast experience in the second tier, it’s likely that a tribunal may award the Blackburn a seven-figure sum for Dolan, which would go some way towards making up for the cost of his departure as a free agent - even if it would be well less than his true value as a player.
While Bristol City may be a promotion challenge rival next year, and there is the potential for some humiliation if he scores a crucial goal against them in the upcoming campaign, Rovers cannot afford to let a seven-figure sum disappear like that if Valerien Ismael is going to strengthen his squad.
Dolan’s departure is still a big blow for Blackburn, especially given how impressive his performances had been in the previous campaign.
Losing him as a free agent will really hurt Valerien Ismael’s squad, and he will need to be replaced this summer despite a minimal fee coming in for him.
If a greater job had been done with his contract, then it’s very possible that a deal could’ve still been arranged for him to exit this summer but at a fee that better represents his potential value to Rovers.
Instead, he is the latest player to depart the club at a lower sum than might be expected, following in the steps of Ben Brereton Diaz, Darragh Lenihan and Joe Rothwell.
While Blackburn will be financially incentivised to hope for Dolan to sign for their Championship rivals, it will still sting for supporters to see him putting on a jersey for Gerhard Struber's side next season, if a move comes to pass.
