George Earthy is set to miss the majority of pre-season after suffering an ankle injury in training.

In what is a cruel blow to the Academy graduate, who had a successful loan spell last season at Bristol City, it is understood he is now set to be ruled out for around a month.

Although the full extent of the injury is unknown at this stage, its believed Earthy sustained ligament damage, however the current prognosis suggests it is not seen as overly serious.

Earthy is joined by the likes of Freddie Potts, Calum Marshall and Lewis Orford this summer from the clubs Academy, as they aim to get into Graham Potters vision for the side this season.

The Hammers boss is keen to inject youth, hunger and pace into West Ham, with a desire to see a reduction in the average squad age, with one eye firmly on the players aiming to make the step up.

Although this is a blow for Earthy, he is still very much expected to be given his chance to impress, once he returns from injury.
