On Monday, it was announced that Bayern Munich target Xavi Simons had rejoined RB Leipzig on loan for another campaign.

Over the course of the summer transfer window, Der Rekordmeister had been attempting to lure the Dutch international to the Allianz Arena.

However, despite Bayern’s best efforts, Simons elected to return to Saxony, where he excelled last season.

In 43 appearances for Die Roten Bullen, the 21-year-old scored ten goals and registered 15 assists in all competitions last season, averaging a goal contribution every 138 minutes.

While his future beyond this year is unknown, it is understood that PSG are willing to offload Simons next summer when PSV Eindhoven’s sell-on clause becomes redundant.

Meaning that, for now, this is a significant victory for Leipzig over Bayern.

Speaking to Sky Germany (via Florian Plettenberg) about his decision to remain in Leipzig, Simons remarked:

“This is the moment to keep developing myself as a player and as a team player. This is the perfect place for me and the perfect time to keep doing that.”

“I am thankful to everyone who took the time to call me and explain the situation and how they saw me. In the end, this is my decision. I spoke to everyone before making my decision and explained it.”

Bayern are hopeful of still signing an attacking talent this summer, and with Dani Olmo seemingly bound to sign for Barcelona, they will have to ensure they beat PSG to the signing of Désiré Doué.
