Man Utd thrash struggling Blues

Three goals in the space of four first half minutes sent Manchester United on their way to an easy victory over Birmingham City on Saturday afternoon.

Captain Katie Zelem got things going on 12 minutes with a delightful close range chip that crept in under the crossbar before Leah Galton scored twice in as many minutes to go with her assist for the opener.

They came from two almost identical finishes as she pounced inside the six-yard box to prod in crosses from the right flank before an Ella Toone strike on the stroke of half-time came back off the bar and found the net via unfortunate Blues goalkeeper Emily Ramsey.

After the break, Jackie Groenen made her long-awaited return from injury but not before a fifth was added through Alessia Russo thanks to a wonderful diving header.

The result sees United move up to third, level on points with second placed Chelsea, who do have two games in hand.

Stanway steers City to Villa win

Manchester City continued their impressive recent run as they made it five wins on the spin away to Aston Villa.

The visitors flew out of the blocks and were ahead within five minutes thanks to a Georgia Stanway strike from the edge of the area which squirmed in via the aid of a deflection.

The second didn’t arrive until shortly before half-time when a brilliant Lucy Bronze pass picked out Ellen White, who squared for Vicky Losada to score.

Stanway then completed the scoring in the closing stages with her second of the game by slamming in at the far post.

City can go within two points of the top three with victory.
