The Northern Ireland international joined the club from Linfield in January 2022, and it has turned out to be astute business for the Black Cats, with Hume becoming a key figure over the past few years.

The right-back was particularly outstanding this season, as Sunderland beat Sheffield United in the play-off final to win promotion, with Hume scooping the Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards at the Stadium of Light.

Trai Hume transfer latest as Wolves and Everton circle

Such performances have caught the eye, and Sky Sports News have claimed that Wolves, Everton and several La Liga clubs are monitoring the 23-year-old.

However, they do add that Sunderland are in a strong position, as Hume has a contract that runs until 2027, whilst the Wearside outfit also hold a 12-month option, so they are under no pressure to sell.

The update doesn’t state what sort of fee Sunderland would want for their star man, although they will surely demand a substantial sum given Hume’s importance to Regis Le Bris’ team, along with his contract status.

Sunderland will be focused on improving the squad this summer

In truth, this shouldn’t be a rumour that worries Sunderland fans too much, as it’s impossible to think that they will sell Hume this summer.

It’s no surprise that clubs are keen on the defender, as he has proven himself to be a quality player over the past few years, and if Sunderland hadn’t won promotion, an exit felt inevitable.

But, Wolves and Everton are clubs that the Black Cats will be trying to finish above, so you would expect it to require a ridiculous offer for Sunderland to consider a sale. Plus, Hume is unlikely to push for a move to either, considering he will be playing Premier League football.

Of course, every player has a price, but the focus for all involved with recruitment at Sunderland this summer will be on strengthening the squad.

The aim will be to find talented players to help the likes of Hume, and the goal is to keep the team in the Premier League.
