All eyes were on the action at a history-making sold-out Emirates as Arsenal battled Wolfsburg for a spot in the final.

Following a late comeback in Germany, the Gunners hit the ground running this time and after seeing a penalty scare brushed aside thanks to VAR, Stina Blackstenius’ solo run rounded goalkeeper Merle Frohms for 1-0.

But the visitors then grew into the match and drew level just before half-time as a former Arsenal player came back to haunt the Emirates.

Alexandra Popp’s header was flicked on towards Jill Roord, and her strike had a lucky bounce seeing it beat Manuela Zinsberger for 1-1.

Coming out into the second half, the Emirates crowd was rocking within the blink of an eye as Blackstenius put the ball in the net again, only for VAR to rule it out.

Popp then proved why she is one of the game’s best attackers and silenced the record-breaking English crowd of a little over 60,000 when her near post header made things 2-1. It was her first goal against Arsenal after six games.

However, as happened in the first leg, Arsenal rallied to draw 2-2 when unlikely hero Jen Beattie scored her first European goal in five years to keep the hosts alive.

Unfortunately, the celebrations were cut short when substitute Laura Wienroither was stretchered off with an apparent knee injury. Arsenal are also without star names Beth Mead, Vivianne Miedema and captain Leah Williamson.

The late equaliser sent the match into extra time with things level 4-4 on aggregate.

Arsenal were on the attacking front, with substitute Lina Hurtig’s point-blank shot needing to be saved by Frohms and Katie McCabe had a fluke cross hit the woodwork.

But the visitors saw Pauline Bremer go from zero to hero for the winner.

After pulling a glorious chance inches wide of the net, the forward was left unmarked in the box and tapped home after Lotte Wubben-Moy gave the ball away.

Two-time winners Wolfsburg will now face Barcelona for the trophy on 3 June.
