Willian Arão has said that Flamengo are working on adapting “as quickly as possible” to the new regime under manager Domènec Torrent.

The Catalan arrived in Rio de Janeiro on Monday after he was chosen as the successor to Jorge Jesus.

Torrent most recently spent 18 months in charge of New York City FC, but is best known for his work as assistant to Pep Guardiola at Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City.

And the 58-year-old has apparently wasted no time in imposing his style on the Rubro-Negro.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s Brasileirão opener at home to Atlético Mineiro, Arão praised Torrent’s immediate impact.

“It’s been very good, as it has been all our weeks. The week has been good. We are preparing well for Sunday to have a great match and win,” the defensive midfielder said.

Arão added that the Mengão realise they will have to adjust to life under Torrent following the decision of the hugely popular Jesus to leave for Benfica in his native Portugal.

“They are different methodologies, different ideas,” Arão said (via Gazeta Esportiva).

“I believe that inevitably we will undergo a change, have something new.

“We hope to get used to it. We had a week of work, and what we hope is to adapt as quickly as possible and understand what he wants, so that we can put it into practice and seek the victory and the titles.”

The Brasileirão gets off to a belated start this weekend after being delayed for several months due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
