Flamengo have shown genuine interest in signing Facundo Colidio from River Plate, with the club monitoring the Argentine forward as they look to strengthen attacking options in the upcoming transfer window, according to Globo.

Colidio, 25, is currently under contract with River Plate until December. Talks are ongoing for a potential extension until the end of 2031, reportedly at the request of coach Marcelo Gallardo. The presence of these renewal negotiations, along with Colidio’s €30 million release clause, complicates any immediate move. However, Flamengo believe that a deal could be struck for a fee below the buyout figure should negotiations progress.

Speaking to Argentine media on June 17, Colidio made clear his preference to remain in Buenos Aires for now. “Obviously I want to renew. We are talking and I hope it happens soon,” the striker commented.

In terms of playing profile, Colidio operates primarily as a centre-forward but has featured from the left flank, particularly when paired with Borja in River’s attack. He has appeared in 25 matches this season—23 of those as a starter—registering seven goals and one assist.

The forward’s career path began with the Boca Juniors youth setup, followed by a stint in Italy, where he played for Inter Milan’s youth sides but never featured for the senior squad. He later moved to St. Truiden in Belgium before returning to Argentina with Tigre. After a productive spell there, Colidio joined River Plate in mid-2023, despite interest from Boca.

Flamengo’s pursuit of Colidio comes as the club gears up for a more aggressive approach in the new transfer window opening on the 10th. The club already invested significantly in the first half of the year, bringing in Juninho for around R$31 million and securing Danilo and Jorginho on free transfers. Following the lucrative sale of Gerson and rewards from their Club World Cup participation, Flamengo are preparing for further investments. Alongside a new striker, the club is also seeking a winger with one-on-one ability and another midfielder to share responsibilities with Arrascaeta. Jorge Carrascal, currently with Dynamo Moscow, remains the preferred candidate for the midfield role.

Any move for Colidio will hinge on the outcome of his renewal talks with River Plate. At this stage, Flamengo are simply monitoring developments and weighing the possibility of negotiating a transfer, taking advantage of the forward’s contract situation if an agreement with River is not reached.
