The mystery man behind the mask declared on Friday…’That’s the Premier League. Everybody wants to get off to a good start. We haven’t.’

Only days earlier after the previous match, the mystery man had claimed: ‘…if we had took them two [extra] points we would be sitting on five or six, in mid-table, thinking ‘not a bad start’.’

Small margins you might say.

That man behind the mask is of course our very own tactical experienced genius, Steve Bruce.

Ahead of Watford he came out with this on Friday…

“That’s the Premier League. Everybody wants to get off to a good start. We haven’t.

“There have been bits of games where I have been very pleased and I thought we played ever so well for a good hour and a bit down at Manchester [United].

“I thought we played very, very well after the first 20 minutes against Leeds.

“We hope we keep them standards and we get a result…and that’s what it’s all about in the Premier League.

“You have got to find a result which, when you are up against it, it is always difficult.

“They [Watford] have won a couple of games.

“They’re newly promoted back into the Premier League, they have been up and down a little bit.

“But they have got some real quality at the top end of the pitch with a lot of pace, so we will have to defend well.”

Yet another great team we have to face then ‘with real quality at the top end’ according to Steve Bruce.

You have to wonder what superlatives Brucey will then be churning out in the next couple of home games, facing the likes of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, followed by Romelu Lukaku and friends.

Steve Bruce also declaring ‘when you are up against it, it is always difficult’, well that is certainly something we can identify with, especially after that two wins from twenty one match run in a four month spell last season.
