England have continued their hugely impressive qualifying campaign for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023 with a record 20-0 victory over Latvia at The Keepmoat Stadium in Doncaster this evening.

Lauren Hemp scored four while there were hat-tricks for Beth Mead, Ellen White and Alessia Russo as Sarina Wiegman’s side ran riot in South Yorkshire. White’s treble saw her move to the top of England’s all-time record goalscoring charts with 48 goals.

The scoring started as early as the second minute when Mead drove the ball home before White’s stunning looping effort found the top corner as she moved level at the top of England’s goalscoring charts with Kelly Smith. White soon moved clear when she struck from close range before Mead drilled home a fourth goal with just 13 minutes on the clock.

Beth England then had a goal ruled out for offside before Hemp netted her first England goal, a stunning header across the box.

The Lionesses would go on to add three more goals before the break as they established an eight-goal advantage. First, Mead bundled the ball in to complete her hat-trick before Ella Toone curled home a lovely effort from the edge of the area. Hemp then headed home her second goal of the evening as England went 8-0 up.

The second half followed the same pattern as the first half with England being even more clinical in-front of goal. White completed her hat-trick in the 49th minute, curling home a sublime effort from the edge of the box before a Georgia Stanway penalty made it 10-0 after Mead had been fouled in the area. Substitute Jess Carter then tapped home her first England goal from close range before Beth England finally headed home her first of the game.

The goals kept coming with Jill Scott and Russo heading in from close range before Hemp netted her third with a superb effort from the edge of the box. At 15-0, England did not end their relentless attacking play. Jordan Nobbs drilled home the 16th goal before two headers from Russo saw her claim a match ball, the second effort coming following a howler from visiting keeper Alina Skjemenova who had come on at half-time.

England lashed home her second goal of the game with six minutes to go before Hemp completed a quadruple two minutes from time with a close range finish to make it 20-0.

The Lionesses remain top of their FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023 qualification group with six wins out of six. Wiegman’s side have scored 53 goals while they are yet to concede.
