Arsenal were handed a boost in the Premier League title race last night after challengers Liverpool lost 2-0 to Everton at Goodison Park

The result left the Gunners three points clear of the Reds after 34 games. Manchester City are four points adrift of top spot with two games in hand.

Arsenal need to win their remaining four games and hope the reigning champions stutter for them to have a chance of winning their first Premier League title since 2004.

Former England striker Gary Lineker still believes they can despite not being very confident of their chances.

“The truth is I don’t know – you can say what you want but whether it would be one of the three, and it could be any of them,” Lineker said on TNT Sports when asked for his prediction following the latest round of fixtures.

“I think if you have to put your life on it, you would probably go for Manchester City because they are in the prime spot now – it’s in their hands and they do have a tendency to win every game at the end of the season.

“But I went for Arsenal at the start of the season mainly because Alan Shearer and Micah Richards both went for Manchester City on the podcast.

“I thought someone has got to be different, but I also thought they would push them this season because I think they are gradually improving.

“So I’m going to stick with Arsenal but with no confidence whatsoever – it could be any of the three, none of us know.”

Arsenal are back in action when they visit Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday and they will fancy their chances after strolling to a 5-0 victory over Chelsea in midweek.

However, it will not be easy as Spurs are also fighting for their lives and hoping to pip Aston Villa to fourth place in the table.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou will be desperate to prove a point against Arsenal, and the Gunners must be on top of their game if they want to leave with all three points.

They face Bournemouth, Manchester United and Everton in their last three games of the season.
