QPR are reportedly closing in on the signing of Richard Kone from Wycombe Wanderers
Julien Stéphan has refused to comment on the impending arrival of Richard Kone at QPR.
It has been reported by Sky Sports (12.24), the Hoops have agreed a deal with Wycombe Wanderers for the forward.
It is understood that the Championship side will pay £2.75 million up front to bring the 22-year-old to Loftus Road.
Kone scored 18 goals from 41 appearances in League One last season, with the team earning a play-off place with a fifth place finish.
When asked about Kone, Stéphan opted not to discuss the impending arrival of the forward, who has not yet been officially confirmed as a QPR player.
He has instead highlighted the likes of Rayan Kolli and Emmerson Sutton, who he would much rather discuss at this time as he waits for the agreement with Wycombe to be finalised.
"I want to speak about the QPR players and I can't do anything else so if you want to speak about [Rumarn] Burrell, Kolli and Sutton, the striker, we can speak," said Stépha, via the BBC.
"I can't speak because it's not QPR's player."
QPR will be hoping that a deal for Kone can be completed in time for this weekend’s registration window so that he can feature for the team against Watford on 16 August.
Kone could become the club’s sixth signing of the summer window, with Stéphan keen to leave his mark on the first team squad.
The Frenchman was appointed as manager at the end of the previous campaign, and has overseen a busy transfer market so far.
QPR have signed Karamoko Dembele to a permanent deal after his initial loan stint last season.
The London outfit have also completed moves for Rumarn Burrel, Kealey Adamson, Kwame Poku and Amadou Salif Mbengue, with the market remaining open for further business until 1 September.
Kone enjoyed a very strong campaign in League One, and at 22-years-of-age he has the potential to improve and develop into an even better all around player.
The Ivorian will be making the step up to the Championship, but it is a risk worth taking for QPR given the cost of the deal, which could look very reasonable if he does keep up his goal scoring form.
The Hoops have backed Stéphan this summer, which is a positive sign for their financial position after a difficult few years previously.
It has already been a solid window for the club, and the addition of Kone only further strengthens the business QPR have done this summer.
