The German had done a terrific job with the Owls since his appointment in October 2023, which included guiding the team to safety against all odds in his first season.

Rohl followed that up with a 12th-placed finish in his first full campaign last time out, but there has been plenty of speculation surrounding his future in the past few months due to the financial issues the club face.

Danny Rohl leaves Sheffield Wednesday

It was previously reported that Rohl was set to leave, but he returned earlier this month amid hopes a takeover would go through, ending Dejphon Chansiri’s time in charge of the club.

However, that fell through, which put Rohl’s future in doubt once again, and his exit was officially announced by the club, just under two weeks before they start their Championship season at Leicester City on August 10.

Henrik Pedersen, who had been assistant to Rohl, is expected to step up to take charge of the team, with the Dane believed to be popular among the players.

Danny Rohl not expected to take another job immediately

A key reason for the uncertainty around Rohl last month centred on the fact he was linked with several other jobs, with Leicester and Southampton among his admirers, as well as clubs in Germany.

So, nothing is imminent for the 36-year-old, although he is sure to be a man in-demand as the season progresses, as Rohl has enhanced his reputation thanks to his time at Hillsborough, even if the ending has been messy for all parties.

Rohl, of course, had been keen to join a new club but no move materialised, and it will be interesting to see just how long he remains out of the dugout before returning to management.

Sheffield Wednesday will be glad to have Danny Rohl situation sorted

Despite the undoubtedly good job that Rohl has done over the years, he hasn’t made himself popular with all the fans due to how he has handled this situation.

Obviously, the Owls’ main issue is Chansiri, and you get the feeling the club won’t be able to progress until a full sale is sanctioned.

But, in the short-term, they needed clarity on the managerial position, and Rohl’s departure is best for the club in the short-term, and it will now be down to Pedersen to do his best to get a tune out of these Wednesday players when the new season starts.

Consistency is the only slight consolation for the club in a drawn-out saga that became wearisome for all involved, and Rohl's situation is one issue at Wednesday that has now been sorted - but much still needs to happen at Hillsborough in order for the Owls to have any confidence in their fortunes for the upcoming campaign.
