Westerlo announce Rik De Mil as new head coach | OneFootball

Westerlo have officially announced that former Club Brugge caretaker head coach Rik De Mil is to take over from the recently sacked Jonas De Roeck. De Mil, who took over from Scott Parker a few weeks into 2023 at Club Brugge, has signed a two and a half year deal with the side currently in the bottom four of the Belgian Pro League. Despite having the opportunity to leave Club Brugge in the summer, De Mil opted to remain with the side as a coach under Ronny Deila.

However, Westerlo have tempted him with a young squad full of potential that has been struggling on the pitch. The side wanted a head coach who has a history of developing young talent, something he was known for during his time with Club Brugge.

De Mil will certainly be happy to be coming into a team that recently won a huge relegation six pointer against bottom side Kortrijk. Erdon Daci scored a late winner for Westerlo which closed the gap to Charleroi and safety to just three points. His first game in charge will be against Eupen, another side struggling to avoid finishing int he bottom four and then facing the possibility of relegation to the Challenger Pro League.
