Former Leicester and OH Leuven Ghanaian midfielder likely to leave Club Brugge in the summer | OneFootball

In the summer of 2021 Club Brugge parted with €9m to sign Kamal Sowah from Leicester City. The Ghanaian midfielder had spent the last handful of seasons on loan at the English sides sister club OH Leuven, where he had scored 13 goals and provided 10 assists in 72 matches. Sowah had been one of the more exciting players for OH Leuven during the season and it was no surprise that Sowah was being sought after by another Belgian side.

However, his time in Club Brugge has not gone to plan. He has played 53 games but only managed 17 in his first season before being loaned to AZ Alkmaar. Upon his return to the club, Sowah had a much better time under head coach Carl Hoefkens, scoring his first goals for the club. He grabbed two during the Champions League campaign, with four assists in the league.

Yet once Hoefkens was sacked, Sowah struggled to hold down a regular starting place once again. He joined Standard Liege on loan this season, once again linking up with Hoefkens. However, with just two goals in 27 games, Standard have decided not to pick up their purchase option.

This summer looks like Sowah will have to leave Club Brugge once more. This may be another loan, or perhaps he will find a permanent solution. OH Leuven could be a good place for him to return to on loan to rediscover his best form, with the side in need of their own injection of attacking talent after a poor season in front of goal.
