Were Roma In For Lloris Until Owners Vetoed The Move?

It is very much the case of another day for AS Roma fans, and another story focused on former manager Jose Mourinho. This time it includes one of his failed transfer plans for last summer’s window, and it is now being claimed that Mourinho had a very strong interest in returning to former club Tottenham Hotspur for the services of French international goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris and few on bettors.co.zm would have seen that deal in the offering. It is suggested that the 37 year-old was one of Mourinho’s top targets for the window as he wanted to shake up the goalkeeping department at the Stadio Olimpico, but that our owners intervened and they vetoed the move from going through as despite the gaffer’s wishes, they preferred to maintain the status quo, which saw Rui Patricio as our Number 1 with Mile Svilar as back-up and cover. The initial report appears to come from Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, but in many ways our owners opting against making the move probably does make sense. Although Lloris was available as a free transfer (the deal that ultimately took him to MLS side Los Angeles FC in the January window), even taking a pay cut on his Premier League wages would have still represented a heavy investment requirement from Roma, especially as it was well known that he was looking ideally for a 24 month deal. With 36 year old Patricio already on our books, with us splashing out a reported £9.8 million back in the summer of 2021 to Wolverhampton Wanderers, Lloris’ age would be another issue, as one way or another we would basically have been left with a very expensive back up option.Despite his age, there is no doubting that Lloris could have a very good few years left in his tank if he wants to prolong his career into the twilight, and our Serie A division could well have been an ideal place for him to have achieved that. However, bringing in someone of Lloris’ calibre just would not have made sense to many in the fan base, given Patricio is a top quality goalkeeper of his own. In terms of the future, he would naturally have a 12 to 18 month advantage on Lloris anyway, and even on a comparison front, both have had good and successful domestic club careers, with solid team and individual honours, and both have had a long and pretty successful international career with their countries. There are naturally differences in their skill sets, but by and large, most fans would probably agree that there is ultimately very little between them them. Either are capable of doing the job, the simple fact is we already have Patricio though.
