Chelsea manager Emma Hayes says that her side won’t be taking the threat of latest opponents Ajax lightly.

The Blues play host to the Dutch club at Stamford Bridge in the second leg of their UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday evening.

Chelsea hold a significant three-goal advantage but manager Hayes says that nobody is taking Ajax lightly going into the second leg.

“There is nobody in our dressing room that will take tomorrow’s game lightly or think for one minute that because we are winning 3-0, the game is over,” Hayes said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “That’s a mistake that starts in your head and your mind.

“When a team has nothing to lose and they’re 3-0 down, they play with freedom, they play in a different way to express themselves and they are often the most dangerous moments.”

Chelsea have the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup final against Arsenal coming up at the weekend. Hayes stressed that all of the focus goes into the next fixture against Ajax with The Blues taking things one game at a time.

She said “We only play one game at a time, I’m not thinking about Sunday, I’m thinking about tomorrow.

“We know that Ajax are going to come out and be aggressive, we are expecting that. They have to because it’s a competition where only one team advances.

“We are prepared for the aggression from the opponent and their learnings. They are a good side and it is important for us to keep all of our focus and attention on tomorrow.”
