Sebastian Rode said Eintracht weren’t “up for the fight” against Bochum on Sunday. The Eagles captain and head coach Oliver Glasner react to the 3-1 defeat.

Head coach Oliver Glasner: “Congratulations to Thomas [Reis] and VfL on a well-deserved win after creating more goalscoring opportunities. We started very sloppily and fell behind. A lot of things happened after that – the missed penalty, the two injuries. We tried everything and went hell for leather late on but then neglected our defensive duties. That allowed Bochum’s fast players to hit us on the counter.

“Overall we didn’t manage to hold our own. We weren’t able to assert ourselves and didn’t pass the ball quickly enough. For that you need mental freshness, but we were lacking that today. Winning only 40 per cent of duels isn’t enough. We gave 100 per cent, but that wasn’t enough. The rollercoaster ride continues. The challenge remains to start adding consistency to our performances, individually and as a team. Eight points from nine games isn’t what we expect from ourselves. Goncalo [Paciencia] felt his thigh, [Kristijan] Jakic got a knock. I can’t tell you any more than that just now.”

Sebastian Rode: “Bochum were aggressive from the first minute. We wanted to counter with passion, aggression and high commitment levels, but we didn’t manage to do that. In the second half we tried everything and hit the post through Daichi [Kamada], but overall we lacked compactness and determination. The coach had warned us that we’d need to be up for the fight, but we weren’t. Bochum played Bundesliga football against a harmless Eintracht side.”
