PSG have announced that Eintracht Frankfurt have triggered French centre-forward Hugo Ekitike’s (21) permanent purchase option. The former Stade de Reims striker is now tied with the Bundesliga outfit with a contract set to expire in 2029. Ekitike joined Paris Saint-Germain from Reims two years ago on a season-long loan with an option-to-buy for a reported €35m fee. The option was automatically triggered last summer, although Ekitike’s first season in Paris won’t live long in memory, having scored only four goals in 33 appearances.

PSG decided to cut their losses at the start of the season by offering their fringe centre-forward to Eintracht as part of the deal to lure Randal Kolo Muani. PSG successfully signed the France international but Ekitike stayed put and was frozen out by Les Parisiens in the process. In search of game time, Ekitike eventually joined Eintracht in January as part of a season-long loan with an option to buy for a reported €16.5m fee, according to L’Equipe. The centre-forward scored his first goal with Die Adler last week in their 3-1 win against Augsburg.

‘Hugo has shown in his previous appearances what quality he has‘, added Eintracht Frankfurt Sporting director Markus Krösche. ‘We are firmly convinced of his great potential and look forward to seeing him in the Eintracht jersey beyond the current season.’ Eintracht will face Champions League semi-finalists Bayern Munich on Saturday.
