Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor says that his side are in a good place ahead of this afternoon’s trip to Aston Villa.

The Cityzens are enjoying a four-match winning streak in all competitions while they have been able to welcome back long term absentees Lucy Bronze and Steph Houghton in recent weeks.

Manchester City will aim to make it five wins in five games when they face an Aston Villa side in poor form. When speaking ahead of the match, Taylor said that his side are now in a good place after what was a challenging first half of the season.

“The team are performing well and that can be seen in the results,” Taylor said when speaking in his pre-match press conference. “We are in a good place, confidence is high and we are excited about the games that we have ahead of us before the international break.

“We are still obviously missing a couple of key players who are not too far away but I think that the majority of this period has been pleasing.”

Manchester City’s latest opponents Aston Villa are yet to play in 2022 with last weekend’s fixture against Everton having been postponed. Taylor admitted that he is unsure whether The Villans’ extended break will help or hinder his side.

He said “It is hard to say (whether Villa will be more or less fresh), you would always probably say that you are better with rhythm and I’d certainly prefer to have that.

“The way that we started against Brighton after a sustained break, I think we saw that but we were a little bit off it in some of the final actions in the first half. It will lend that thought to having more games under your belt but you can never tell.

“Villa are going to try and make it very difficult for us and give nothing away but we need to impose ourselves on the game early on and I think that we have done that in the first two games which has probably been the most pleasing aspect.”

Manchester City’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture at Aston Villa kicks-off at 12.30pm.
