An up-and-coming member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has turned heads across the world of football late on Friday night.

The player in question? Mikayil Faye.

Stopper Faye, for his part, has proven one of the standout performers in Rafa Márquez’s Barcelona Atlètic outfit across the season to date.

Shining on both sides of the ball, the 19-year-old has looked a dominant force when defending, and regular threat in the final third, too.

After seeing such exploits rewarded by way of a first-time call-up to the Barcelona senior squad by Xavi for the club’s La Liga meeting with Mallorca earlier this month, Faye was then recognised by his native Senegal, too.

Owing to a pair of late injury blows in Aliou Cissé’s squad, it was announced that Faye, who had previously only featured for the Lions of Teranga at U17 level, would take his place in Senegal’s senior ranks for friendly fixtures against Gabon, and Benin.

Not only that, but he went on to secure a start in his country’s meeting with the former, on Friday night.

And, safe to say, Faye will not forget his international bow any time soon…

This comes with the stopper, en route to an eventual 3-0 victory, having netted Senegal’s 2nd of the evening, in absolutely stunning fashion.

After picking the ball up a full 30 yards from goal, Faye unleashed a wicked left-footed drive, which found its way into the roof of the Gabonese net.
