Even though he might not have scored a goal on the night, Vinicius Jr. was the star of the show for Real Madrid on Wednesday night as they beat 2-1 Bayern Munich at the Santiago Bernabeu to make it to the finals of the UEFA Champions League.

The Brazilian superstar was all over the Bayern Munich defence throughout the game, especially in the second period, as he tore the likes of Joshua Kimmich and Matthijs de Ligt to shreds with his speed, dribbling, and movement.

In fact, Vinicius forced the opening goal as it was his shot that Manuel Neuer spilt for Joselu to score the equaliser.

Having won the Man of the Match award in the first leg against Bayern last week, the Brazilian was again presented with the award last night.

“We once again put Real Madrid in another final, today we play for our injured teammates, for our family, for the Bernabeu and we play for this shirt that always does incredible things,” said the winger after the game.

Vinicius also thanked Real Madrid president Florentino Perez for bringing him to the club, saying:

“This stadium and this shirt again. Presi, thank you for bringing me to the best club in the world.”

Expressing his gratitude to the fans for their support, he added: “It is a dream to be able to play football at Real Madrid. I was in Brazil, the other side of the world.

“I was able to make history with this team, with my family and with these fans who I love very much and who always support me.”

On Real Madrid’s habit of coming back after going behind to opponents, he added: “I don’t think the fans and our families can stand this kind of matches where we concede and come back later on (laughs).”

On what it means to play for Real Madrid, Vinicius said: “I am very proud to wear this shirt and to be able to play so many times in this stadium. This is Real Madrid, we never give up.

“We always believe in ourselves and we know that our fans will be supporting us. That has happened once again and we are going for the 15th.”

Highlighting the teamwork and commitment of the players, he added: “I always say that we want to win at any cost. If I have to go down to defend for my team to win, I’m going to go down.

“Bellingham and Rodrygo too. We are the ones who have to score the goals, but we went down to go to another final. Like we do all the games up to this point.”
